Organisation Description: Gateway Support Group (GSG) is a registered charity (No. 1169183) based in Bolton, established in 2011 by resettled refugees to support fellow refugees and asylum seekers, particularly from BAME backgrounds. Our core aim is to facilitate successful integration and settlement in the UK by addressing key barriers faced by these communities. GSG delivers a range of services including adult literacy and numeracy classes (ESOL), driving theory sessions, step into digital, employability sessions for youth, after-school and weekend educational support for children, sports and fitness activities, translation and interpretation services, advocacy, and signposting. We also run awareness programmes on cross-cutting issues to meet emerging needs and close existing service gaps.
Our beneficiaries are primarily resettled refugees and asylum seekers, including families and individuals of all ages. We focus our support on communities in the Bolton area, working across various wards. Over the years, GSG has developed strong grassroots connections and a bottom-up organisational approach, enabling effective community engagement and project delivery.
We actively collaborate with local community centres, schools, Bolton CVS, and social services, enhancing our reach and impact through partnership working to better serve vulnerable members of the community.
