Organisation Description: MedEquip4Kids is a children’s charity based in Greater Manchester that improves the physical and mental health of children and young people. Alongside our longstanding work providing medical equipment and enhanced environments for hospitals, we deliver the Hummingbird Project, a six-week, evidence-based mental health and wellbeing programme for schools.
Although our head office is in Manchester, we have a strong and growing presence in Bolton. The Hummingbird Project has already been delivered in over 30 primary and secondary schools across the borough, reaching thousands of local pupils. Schools we have worked with include Atherton St George Primary, Essa Academy, Thornleigh Salesian College, Church Road Primary, Haslam Park Primary, Johnson Fold Primary, Markland Hill Primary, St Bede's Academy, Oxford Grove Primary, Pikes Lane Primary, St Matthew’s Primary and St Michael’s Primary, and more.
The programme uses principles of Positive Psychology to provide early, preventative mental health education, using fun and interactive sessions to equip pupils with practical tools to build resilience, manage emotions and improve wellbeing. We are currently developing an adapted version of the course to meet the learning needs of SEND pupils. The project is supported through our partnership with the University of Greater Manchester in Bolton, ensuring our work is evidence-based, evaluated and informed by current research. Both of our project facilitators and most of our volunteers live in the Bolton area, and many are postgraduate students at the university.
We hope that membership of Bolton CVS will help us strengthen our connections within the Bolton community, build relationships with local partners and schools, and better understand local priorities affecting children and young people. We are also keen to access information about local funding opportunities and collaborate with other organisations to expand the reach and impact of the Hummingbird Project across the borough.
