Organisation Description: Side by Side Space CIC is predominantly, though not exclusively, interested in using creativity as a tool to strengthen communities. We aim to boost local connections, participation and pride of place; build community resilience; address social inequalities; and enhance civic engagement. We do this by delivering creative sessions and projects that are co-developed and co-created with local communities.
Alongside these wider community benefits, our creative programmes also offer meaningful personal outcomes. These include increased self-confidence, improved social skills, enhanced wellbeing and mental health, a stronger sense of identity, and the development of artistic and workplace skills. We seek to involve and engage as many members of the community as possible in this ongoing work.
Central to our approach is the co-creation of a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment that is accessible, supportive and accepting of all. Our creative sessions are not only spaces to explore, learn and experiment with different artistic mediums, but also places to meet, socialise, and build and sustain friendships. They provide opportunities for mutual support and shared experiences.
Tackling loneliness, isolation and poor mental health and wellbeing is a key priority for Side by Side Space CIC, alongside encouraging joy, connection and togetherness within the community. We aim to collaborate with everyone — from preschool children and families to adults, SEN groups, older people, and unrepresented and marginalised communities. Everyone.
In the longer term, this work also contributes to the local economy, as creative and arts-led projects can revitalise struggling areas, attract visitors, and support sustainable community growth.
