Organisation Description: VisionFit is a dedicated fitness and wellbeing club created specifically for blind and visually impaired individuals across Greater Manchester. Established in March 2025 as an unincorporated, volunteer-led community organisation, VisionFit exists to remove the barriers that visually impaired people face when accessing mainstream fitness and exercise opportunities.

Our mission is to empower people living with sight loss to lead active, healthy, and independent lives through structured exercise, guided coaching, and inclusive community participation. While many sports exist for visually impaired people regionally, safe, structured, and accessible fitness training is almost non-existent. VisionFit was formed to fill this critical gap.

### What We Do

VisionFit provides a fully accessible, professionally supported fitness programme consisting of:

* Twice-weekly coached sessions in a private, safe gym environment
* Adaptive training methods led by qualified coaches experienced in visual impairment
* Daily home exercise routines supported by instructional videos
* Free resistance bands for every member to build strength and confidence at home

This blended approach ensures that fitness becomes more than a weekly activity — it becomes part of a healthy lifestyle.

### Who We Support

Our organisation works with blind and visually impaired adults of all ages and abilities, including:

* People who are newly diagnosed and losing confidence
* Individuals struggling with isolation or mental health challenges
* Those who want to improve physical health but cannot access traditional gyms
* People wishing to progress toward wider sport and physical activity

No one is excluded on the basis of age, level of fitness, disability, or financial circumstance. VisionFit operates on a low-cost or no-cost basis, ensuring full accessibility.

### Why Our Work Matters

Blind and visually impaired individuals face unique barriers in fitness:

* Unsafe or inaccessible gym environments
* Lack of coaches who understand visual impairment
* Fear of injury or embarrassment
* Low confidence or social isolation

As a result, many people with sight loss struggle with fitness, weight, mental health, and reduced independence.

VisionFit changes this through structured coaching, peer support, and gradual progression, enabling members to build fitness, confidence, and independence at their own pace.

### Impact

VisionFit delivers measurable benefits, including:

* Improved strength, mobility, endurance, and balance
* Reduced social isolation and increased social connection
* Increased independence, motivation, and confidence
* Opportunities to take part in wider sport and outdoor challenges

Members report feeling stronger, healthier, and more empowered both inside and outside the gym.

### Future Development

VisionFit has a long-term plan to expand beyond the gym into wider accessible activities, including:

* Swimming through partnerships with local leisure centres
* Hiking and rough-terrain trail walking
* Running and guided cycling
* Entry into community races and endurance events

This will transform VisionFit into the first comprehensive fitness and adventure programme designed specifically for visually impaired adults in Greater Manchester.

### Safety, Governance and Standards

* Fully volunteer-led organisation
* Qualified coaches and trained volunteers
* Safeguarding policy, code of conduct, and risk assessments in place
* Inclusive, supportive, and respectful environment
* Zero-barrier participation regardless of income or ability

### Our Vision

VisionFit’s vision is simple:
To ensure every blind and visually impaired person has the opportunity, confidence, and support to live a healthy, active, and fulfilling life.
