Organisation Description: Congolese Women’s Community Group (CWCG) is a small, volunteer-led community organisation based in Bolton. We support refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant women, many of whom are single mothers facing English language barriers, isolation and limited access to opportunities; such as employment and financial hardship help, education and skills development, risk of abuse, and so on.
We provide a safe, welcoming, women-only space where women can meet others, build confidence and learn practical skills. Our main activity is a weekly sewing and empowerment group, where participants learn sewing, practise English, share experiences and support one another.
Our aim is to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and help women become more independent through skills, confidence and community connection. We currently support around 30–35 women each year, with positive benefits for their children and families.
The group is run entirely by local volunteers and is shaped by the needs of the women we serve.
